While both gold and silver are poised to do very well when compared to other asset classes in the coming months and years, there are a number of reasons to buy silver before gold.
First, while gold is primarily hoarded or used in jewelry and doesn't have many other uses, silver is just the opposite.
Today though, silver has hundreds of uses from coins, jewelry, silverware, mirrors, photography and other more traditional uses to electrical conductors, medical products and technology. It is one of the most versatile, and therefore, consumed metals on the planet.
Here's a short video that echos the point I'm making in this post.
Once silver is "consumed" for things like cell phones and electronics, clothing and all the other uses that require small quantities per item, the silver is essentially removed from the available reserves. It is either too difficult or too costly to recycle and re-claim it.
For this reason the demand for silver is only going to continue to go up and that's why I buy silver. It's not only a great hedge against inflation, it's also positioned to be a great investment for simple supply and demand fundamentals.
